Veterans Use the GI Bill to Attend Diagnostic Healthcare School in Orange County

Modern Technology School has had the pleasure of training many of our nation’s Veterans over the last 4 decades. We’re approved for the Veterans GI Bill. This means you may use your military benefits in order to attend our ACCSC accredited healthcare school in Orange County. Let’s explore what makes Modern Technology School one of your best options if you’re a Veteran who is passionate about becoming an X-Ray Technician, Ultrasound/Vascular Technologist or Medical Assisting professional.

We’ve worked hard in order to become an ACCSC accredited school as well as to get approved for acceptance of the GI Bill. Furthermore, we’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of Veterans since our school first opened its doors in 1981.  Because Diagnostic Healthcare is such a popular industry that’s on the rise, we’re training more and more Veterans each year. We’ve proud to say that we’ve trained Veterans from all branches of our nation’s military:

  • USAF and Air Force Reserve
  • Air National Guard
  • US Army / Army Reserve
  • Army National Guard
  • Coast Guard & Coast Guard Reserve
  • USMC and Marine Corps Reserve
  • Navy and Navy Reserve

Moreover, we’re seeing many more Veterans turn to a career in Diagnostic Healthcare in recent years. Because of this, we continue to adopt best practices that will simplify the process for incoming Veterans. Furthermore, as a veteran, it’s helpful knowing you’re in good hands and working with a school that cares about you and the sacrifices you’ve made.

Where Should I Use My GI Bill? Getting Into a Steady Industry

Of course, there are dozens of choices when it comes to where you can use your GI Bill. Furthermore, there are literally hundreds of occupations out there for Veterans. Because we don’t have the time to go through each one individually, let’s focus on finding a steady industry. For instance, did you know that Healthcare is one of the few industries that is recession-proof? That said, it’s also seeing growth in Southern California, especially in areas we train in.

There has been a recent surge in the building of new clinics and urgent cares throughout California in the past decade.  As a result, we’re seeing a bigger need for X-Ray Techs who predominantly work at the clinic-level. That said, we’re also seeing major growth in the number of job options for X-Ray Technician graduates. In fact, here in California, there’s a bigger need for X-Ray Techs than for Rad Tech at the hospital-level. Of course, this makes sense considering there haven’t been too many hospitals built in the last decade. For a look at some of the many career options for X-Ray Technicians in California, visit this article.

Ultrasound Technologists who complete our Ultrasound/Vascular Tech program are also faced with changing opportunities in California. Sonography has always been a popular field, but it’s definitely on the rise here in SoCal. Not only do Ultrasound Vascular Technologists make great money, but the career options are evolving as well.

Why do US Veterans Consider Using the GI Bill for Diagnostic Healthcare Training?

Veterans have many options when it comes to using the GI Bill for education, so why Diagnostic Healthcare? We spoke to two US Veterans who are currently in the Ultrasound / Vascular Technologist Program at our school to get a first-hand look behind their decisions. Furthermore, we wanted to gain an understanding of why they chose Modern Technology School. Moreover, we asked them about their career goals after completing the Ultrasound program and getting licensed.

Erin, 24, served in the US Coast Guard’s Honor Guard in Virginia. The Honor Guard was activated in 1962 and is responsible for the performance of public duties for military funerals. Erin is currently in our Ultrasound class and commutes daily from San Diego to Orange County in order to fulfill her dreams of working in Sonography. When we asked Erin about what sparked her interest in Ultrasound, she says she’d always wanted to work in Healthcare.

Nick, 29, served in the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed in Cherry Point, NC, working with aircraft under the hot sun. He’d always aspired to work in a technical field and wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. Furthermore, Nick wanted to be in an industry where he could work comfortably indoors, offering great benefits and a solid retirement. Nick chose Modern Technology School based on our reviews as well as the impression he got after meeting with Admissions.

GI Bill for Healthcare Careers: X-Ray Tech, Ultrasound/Vascular Technologist or Medical Assistant

Erin didn’t know that sonography would make a great career for her until she spoke to a friend who’d recently completed our Ultrasound Program. Nick on the other hand, liked what he read about our hands-on learning and small class sizes. As primarily visual learners, the students enjoyed working in our school’s hands-on ultrasound labs. We spent time with them in their ultrasound class while they scanned each other and other students. Not only were they able to quickly create great images, but they practiced for a upcoming quiz while scanning.

Like Erin and Nick, we’ve met many Veterans over the years who went on to become X-Ray Technicians, Ultrasound Techs, and Medical Assistants. Diagnostic Healthcare is a popular choice for many vets after discharge, but what field is right for you? The good news is that they are all solid careers with steady need.

You can complete our X-Ray Technician program in only 12 months. It includes both Medical Assisting training as well as clinical internship! What makes Modern Technology School unique is that we cross-train our X-Ray Techs as Medical Assistants. This means you get more value for your X-Ray Technician tuition. Our Ultrasound / Vascular Technology program is 18 months and students receive 1,024+ hours of clinical internship hours. Clinical internship is one of those things that not a lot people think about when searching for the best school. Even worse, some medical/healthcare schools ask you to find your own clinical internships, which can be disastrous.

Recent Updates to the GI Bill for Vets Interested in a Career in X-Ray, Ultrasound or Medical Assisting

As you may or may not know, the recent passage of the Harry W. Colmery Educational Assistance Act of 2017, also known as the “Forever GI Bill,” enacts several changes to the GI Bill that will positively impact Veterans and their families. You can read more about the positive changes which the Forever GI Bill provides by visiting this US Dept of Veterans Affairs page.
