The Importance of Medical Assistant Cross-Training in an X-ray Tech Program
Did you know that Medical Assistant cross-training is vital to an X-ray Technician program in California? It’s true that here in CA, things are a little different. X-ray Techs are expected to have Medical Assisting skills alongside their XT training. Moreover, California Healthcare employers are looking for a hybrid of the two when searching for career candidates. Because most people are unaware of this, it’s always a surprise when we talk to them about the importance of medical assistant cross-training in an X-ray Tech program.
After all, students come to us because they know we provide one of the best all-inclusive X-ray Tech programs in Orange County. Furthermore, many students aspire to become an X-ray Tech. So where exactly does all this medical assistant cross-training come in? Moreover, why is it vital to have it as part of an X-ray Technician class?
Let’s explore the ins and outs of these subjects as we walk you through the basics of choosing the best X-ray Tech classes for your needs. Remember, not every X-ray Tech course is going to be 100% perfect and tailored for you. That’s why it’s important to do your research, and to know what’s out there in terms of training opportunities. So grab a pen and paper, take some notes, and let’s begin!
In California, Medical Assistant Cross-Training Should Be Part of an All-Inclusive X-ray Technician Program
If you want to become an X-ray Tech in California, find an all-inclusive X-ray Technician program. Moreover, you need to ensure that the program offers Medical Assistant cross-training. Because the term “all-inclusive” isn’t industry-standardized, some X-ray Tech schools pick and choose what’s actually included. Furthermore, some X-ray Technician courses will not include the medical assisting portion and actually ask you to take two different programs. In other words, they want you to pay two separate tuitions and spend time in two separate curriculums.
Instead, find an all-inclusive X-ray Tech class that offers the medical assistant cross-training as part of it’s standard curriculum. To keep it simple, you don’t want to pay twice, and you definitely don’t want to spend more time in an X-ray program than necessary. Remember that Healthcare employers in California want a hybrid, so you’ll need to have the medical assisting skills too!
Can I Still Get Medical Assistant Cross-Training in an X-ray Tech Night Class?
This is a question we get often. If you’re looking to enroll in X-ray Technician night school, you can still get the medical assistant cross-training. Don’t be fooled into believing that you only have time to study the X-ray Tech portion if you take classes at night. Evening X-ray Tech classes offer the same training and curriculum as their daytime counterparts. At least they should; so when in doubt, double-check and ask.
Modern Technology School offers an X-ray Tech night class in Orange County, and our next course starts January 13th! We keep class sizes small, and our X-ray Technician students get medical assistant cross-training, books and scrubs, and clinical internship included. Furthermore, we cover the cost of your first Limited Scope X-ray Technician and Medical Assistant National Certification exams.
Remember that evening X-ray Tech classes may take longer than a daytime program to complete. Moreover, you will still have to complete your clinical internship during the day. Nonetheless, if you have daytime responsibilities and obligations that make it tough to study during the day, an X-ray Technician evening class may be just the ticket! When Does the Medical Assistant Cross-Training Take Place During Your X-ray Tech Class?
Most X-ray Technicians start their training in the medical assistant cross-training portion of the course. For instance, your first few weeks, you’ll be learning how to work with patients, take lab specimens, perform venipuncture, industry sterilization techniques, and taking patient histories. From there, you’ll work hands-on in live labs with your X-ray Tech counterparts, learning the ins and outs of Diagnostic Healthcare.
Make no mistake about it, this is an excellent foundation and something that will carry you throughout your entire career as an X-ray Tech in CA.
Once you’ve completed your medical assistant cross-training, you move on to the X-ray portion of the program. This is where you learn in small class sizes from compassionate instructors who have stood in your shoes before. Alongside the book work, you’ll be training in hands-on labs. Since class sizes are small, everyone gets a chance to operate the machines and ask questions.
The neatest thing about getting trained as an X-ray Tech in small class sizes is that when you ask questions, you get answers demonstrated hands-on… something you miss out on in the large lecture hall schools and programs.
